Bra silhouettes
Demi, Balconette, Plunge: The Whole Rack
Silhouette is the outline of a bra—how high the cups rise, where the center sits and how much neckline shows. Find the one that suits you and what you are wearing.

The lineup
Start with the neckline.
A silhouette does not promise one level of support or padding. It tells you the cup shape, coverage and center-front height.
Demi
A lower cup that covers roughly half to three-quarters of the breast. Open across the top for square and scoop necklines.
Balconette
A straighter top edge with wider-set straps that creates an open, lifted-looking neckline.
Plunge
A low center front designed to disappear under deep V necklines. A plunge can be unlined, lined or padded.
Halter
Straps travel toward the neck, leaving the shoulders open and pairing naturally with halter tops and dresses.
Bralette
A softer, usually wire-free silhouette that follows your natural shape with lighter structure.
Rocker
An in-between silhouette with its own cup line and attitude. It is not simply another name for a plunge.
Perfect coverage
SYRN’s term for more cup coverage and containment when you want a secure top line.
Side by side
Coverage changes the outfit—not your worthiness for the bra.
| Silhouette | Top edge | Center front | Best under |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demi | Open and curved | Medium | Square, scoop and open necks |
| Balconette | Straighter across | Medium | Wide and sweetheart necks |
| Plunge | Deep V | Low | Deep V tops and dresses |
| Halter | Angles toward neck | Varies | Halter and open-shoulder looks |
| Perfect coverage | Higher and secure | Varies | Everyday layers and higher necks |

Do not confuse the terms
Silhouette, support and shape answer different questions.
Silhouette tells you what the neckline looks like. Support tells you how securely the bra holds. Shape tells you where the construction directs the bust.
A plunge can be supportive. A demi can be unlined. A perfect-coverage cup can preserve your natural shape. Read all three signals before choosing.

Match the bra to the neckline.
| What you are wearing | Try | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Deep V | Plunge | The low center stays out of sight. |
| Square or scoop neck | Demi | The open top edge follows the neckline. |
| Sweetheart or wide neck | Balconette | Wide-set straps and a straighter cup line open the chest. |
| Halter top | Halter | The strap path works with the garment above it. |
| Soft everyday layer | Bralette or perfect coverage | Choose ease or containment based on how you want to feel. |
Silhouette questions
The whole rack, explained
- What is the difference between a demi and a balconette bra?
Both have open necklines, but a balconette usually has a straighter top edge and wider-set straps. A demi tends to have a softer curved cup line.
- Is a plunge bra less supportive?
Not automatically. Support depends on the band, cup capacity and construction. Plunge only describes the lower center front.
- Is a plunge the same as a rocker bra?
No. They are different silhouettes. A plunge is defined by its low center; a rocker has its own cup line and styling.
- Which bra works under a square neckline?
A demi or balconette often works well because the top of the cups stays open across the chest.
- What does perfect coverage mean?
It is SYRN’s term for a more covered cup that offers extra containment along the neckline.
- Can fuller busts wear plunge bras?
Yes. Look for enough cup capacity, a secure band and a center height that feels comfortable on your body.
